Ric Francis, author and expert on trams, returns to Penang and will be delivering a talk on the suitability on implementing modern day trams in George Town and Penang. This is a response towards the proposals of LRT and Monorails presented by SRS in their Penang Transport Master Plan. Ric will be able to evaluate the possibility of using trams, as advocated by the Halcrow Penang Transport Studies and by the Penang Forum’s Better, Cheaper, Faster Transport Master Plan.
About the Speaker:
Ric Francis started his career in tramway engineering at the Western Australian Government Tramways. He co-founded the Perth Electric Tramways and supervised the laying of the Perway & Overhead line wiring of the system. He is a member of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Australia INC and the Royal Australian Electrical Mechanical Engineers of Western Australia. He has written several books on tramways in Australia. He is the author of Trolleybuses & Railways (2006) and Penang Hill Funicular Railway (2016). He aims to research and record the histories of tramways in Asia.
