Illegal Hill-slope Development
14 July 2013
This picture of the horrendous destruction on the hill to the south was taken the day after the big storm recently, when many of the blue tarpaulins blew away revealing the true extent of the earthworks. This sort of destruction is to be absolutely deplored as the topsoil is completely gone meaning it would take a long time to regenerate…if it was ever allowed to. How this could happen is beyond belief. Incredible.
The Penang Heritage Trust is committed towards the protection and conservation of culture and heritage, and this includes both built and natural heritage. Therefore, we are compelled to state our stand against such actions of mass destruction, threatening the sanctity and security of our natural landscapes, especially the hills on Penang. These unregulated and recent developments threaten the natural environment of Penang, and will bring upon adverse effects on the economy and the people of Penang.
